This is one of the pieces I’m most proud of. It belongs to my Mexican Trades series and pays tribute to one of the most iconic and nostalgic sounds of Mexico City: The Fierro Viejo truck — the scrap metal buyer.
The base is a Ford F-100, which I spent two years building, piece by piece, through magazine kits published by Editorial Salvat. Each issue came with parts and instructions, making the process slow but meaningful. Once completed, I fully transformed it into a fierro viejo truck, like the ones you see roaming the streets collecting used items.
I built the metal frame, tied ropes, and handcrafted every object loaded in the back: mattresses, a refrigerator, washing machine, microwave, gas tank, old chair, broken grill… Each one tells its own story.
This piece is not just a miniature; it’s a visual and sound memory of the city — of what's discarded, what still circulates, and what remains part of our collective identity.
